You may think we’re getting in early seeing as Mother’s Day is on Sunday 9th of May this year. However we can probably all admit, that sometimes it’s one of those dates which slips under the radar. Especially if you don’t see your lovely mumma every day.
But fear not, we’re here to help you plan and to make sure your mum is left with one happy tummy! If you’re low on time, then the best advice we can give you is to right now head to our Mother’s Day hampers page and order in a few clicks.

At Just In Time Gourmet we think food is one of the best ways to spoil mum on her special day. Whether that means bringing the whole family together over a decadent night out or by taking over the kitchen duties for the day to thank her for being the wonderful mum she is. For some inspiration, take a look at our ultimate food guide below for spoiling mum this Mother’s Day.
A treat for mums who love to sleep in
Breakfast in bed is the obvious choice for children (and dads) to give mum a treat. Though she’d probably be happy with anything – simply because she gets to sleep in – why not make it extra special? Find a tray to serve breakfast with style and add a vase of flowers for decoration. Use the prettiest tea cups, plates and cutlery, for an added touch.
Do away with toast for this special occasion and serve up gourmet delights, like mini pancakes, a layered yoghurt parfait with granola, warm croissants with an assortment of jams, waffles with ice cream or little bowls of fruit with a honey pot to sprinkle it with. Extra treats include lighting scented candles in her room, hiding presents under the bed and cleaning the house to perfection, for when she decides to get up. This will be sure to earn you some serious brownie points!

A special surprise out on the town
For mums who love being wined and dined, make her night out extra special by surprising her with a decadent restaurant choice, an unexpected visitor or VIP service in her favourite restaurant.
If she doesn’t normally splurge on fine dining, take her to the best restaurant in your area. Invite a distant family member or friend to stay, but don’t let mum know until she arrives at the venue to find the guest waiting there. Arrange for the restaurant to surprise her with a cake, flowers, champagne or a present during the meal. End the night by taking her to a wine bar for a nightcap or a delicious dessert at another surprise venue.

A ‘My Kitchen Rules’ Meal
Does your mum love MKR? We know a fair few mums who are glued to the show every week Sunday-Wednesday. Therefore why not hold your own ‘My Kitchen Rules’ event and invite family and friends to participate in the competition, whereby the mums get to judge everyone else’s efforts! The competition can be held in the kitchen or in the backyard (BBQ style) for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner – or just as a special meal.
Set up mini restaurants, devise exciting menus and serve up a Mother’s Day feast she’ll be proud of. When it’s time for the judging, it’s likely everyone will be a winner in her eyes!
If you need help devising an excellent menu or dish, why not ‘borrow’ a recipe for the night from one of the famous cookbooks out there on the market. Add a slight twist to it, and voila you have your very own recipe.
A token of love from afar
Mother’s Day is just not the same without the family close by, but that’s no reason she can’t feel special all the same. Narrow down a list of all of her favourite things, to put together a package to send. This could include stationary sets, pens, books or linens, plus her all-time favourite foods, like chocolates or lollies. Wrap each item individually, to really draw the fun out.
If she’s in Australia, then we have you covered with an awesome array of Mother’s Day hampers as well as a few newbies we have added to the line-up in 2016.
Now if she’s a bit of sweet tooth, then the Sweet Her Up Gift Basket will completely satisfy her. And should we all just agree that calories don’t count on Mother’s Day? We think so!
For extra bonus points, have a bunch of flowers delivered as well, so her doorbell keeps on ringing!
Treating mum this Mother’s Day couldn’t be easier than indulging her passion for food and letting her know how much she means to the family. And, with so many options for a fabulous foodie day, everyone will be on track to staying in the good books, until next year!
