The Best Foodie Products to Help You Survive Winter 2015

The best foodie products to help you survive winter 2015

The cold weather is making it harder to get up in the morning, the Ugg boots are coming out of the cupboard and the need for anything to do with chocolate has heightened beyond extremes. Yes winter is on the way folks and if you’re like us here in Perth, then you’ve already had a dose of what’s to come.

Technically the 1st of June is the official start of winter and this typically lasts until the end of August. That’s 3 whole months of cold, rain, wind and darkness. How are we going to cope?

Well our friends, we have racked our brains, consumed a few products and have put together the ultimate list of foodie delights you should definitely indulge in over winter 2015. We have products to keep you warm, to help you fight off a winter cold, to help you create the ultimate date-night in and of course gourmet products to simply just put a smile on your face and make that tummy of yours happy!

Keep warm with….

Nothing beats a hot cup of tea, coffee or hot chocolate when you’re cold right down to your bones. Either snuggle up on the couch with your favourite mug or pull out your best friend in winter – the thermos. Whether your commute to work is on the train or by car, a thermal mug is always a good idea.

For that extra zing this winter why not give the Byron Bay Chilli Cinnamon Drinking Chocolate a whirl. The subtle hint of chilli will liven up the coldest hour of the day plus it’s dairy and gluten free.

Our newest addition to our gourmet product range, just in time for winter (no pun intended!) are the treats from Hot Choccy. They are the only flavoured chocolate powders on the market and are made from 100% raw organic cacao powder, they’re gluten-free and they are made with real Belgian chocolate.

Ward off the dreaded lurgies with…

To stay happy and healthy throughout the coldest part of the year means sticking to a balanced diet. You should be consuming foods and beverages from the major food groups for the best defence against colds and flus. From fish to garlic, anise, citrus, tea, red peppers, milk and mushrooms – there are a ton of foods that can help you avoid coughing and sniffling your way through winter.

They do say wine is good for you in moderation, so how about combing the superfood of red peppers with some Chardonnay & chilli? The VinoFood Red Pepper, Chardonnay & Chilli Sauce is a great way to add some extra fiery flavour to stir-fries, dips and heck we have even been known to sip it straight out of the bottle.

Health.com explains that all tea, whether it’s black, white or herbal contains antioxidants which may have flu-fighting capabilities. We think our Rubra Tea with its calming herbal infusion would be absolutely perfect this winter. With superfoods like aniseed and fennel in, well it doesn’t get much better than that.

Create a hearty home-cooked meal with…

Seriously, treating a loved one, a friend or an acquaintance to a home cooked meal can never go astray. There is nothing like good food, good drinks and splendid company when it’s pouring with rain outside. Plus if it’s a date night, team those 3 elements up with a roaring fire and you’ve created the ultimate snuggling atmosphere!

From chilli mussel sauce to curry pastes to tomato-based sauces perfect for pasta dishes, we stock a wide range of savoury sauces to help you create the ultimate meal.

This year, we have made planning a home-cooked meal even easier and we have created a special Mamma Mia Italian pasta night hamper with wine/beer or cider included to provide you with all the ingredients for a night with less time spent in the kitchen and more time soaking up the good company.

Be happy with…

Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate. There’s no denying it, chocolate is the ultimate happy fix. And yes we are totally going to spout on how good chocolate is for you right now! According to health.org.au, it’s all about moderation and dark chocolate. We especially like how their article ends ‘But remember to also eat other flavonoid-rich foods like blueberries, cherries, cranberries, red apples, red cabbage, purple onions, green and white tea and maybe a little red wine.”

Thank-fully we stock both dark chocolate and red wine. So it’s safe to say we have your back this winter!

Our Bloomsberry Chocolate range has various dark chocolate block options from the Emergency Chocolate bar to the luscious dark chocolate Heart + Heart bar fit for the romantics out there!

As the famous Poet, Edith Sitwell said..
Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire: it is the time for home.
