Choose your preferred scenery backdrop; from open grassy meadows, wooded areas or hillside valley views to secluded water scenery including lakes, rivers, waterfalls or the beach. Perth Lookouts

Hovea Falls, John Forrest National Park:

This gem has it all— waterfalls, parkland, walking trails and large granite rocks that are ideal to picnic on! What more could you want?

Darling Scarp Lookout & Perth Hills:

Exuding plenty of warm country charm and located just 45 minutes east of Perth; this region boasts stunning scenic views, quaint townships and wineries. You are sure to find lots of perfect romantic spots for your Valentine’s Day picnic.

Greenmount Lookout:

This smaller WA National Park offers impressive views of Perth, the Swan Coastal Plain and Jarrah, Marri and Wandoo Forests. Enjoy a picnic before or after a leisurely stroll or bike ride through the various mountain trails.

Kalamunda Zig Zag Lookout:

Embark on a true Australian adventure, carefully zig-zagging around sharp corners and taking in stunning panoramic views of greater Perth CBD and surrounds. Enjoy the view!

Bayview Park, Mosman:

There are two main picnic parks. The lower level one near the water, which is lovely, and the higher one located on the Mosman Park Heritage Trail which has awesome views of Point Walter Reserve and the Swan River. It’s an ideal place for a romantic picnic for two!

Wireless Park, Ardross:

Enjoy spectacular views of the city skyline and Swan River as well as the natural beauty of the park itself from the top of either of the two observation towers at the top of the hill. Definitely another fabulous picnic spot in Perth!

Cottesloe Civic Centre Grounds (Western Suburbs):

Shady jungle-like gardens and expansive multi-terraced sunny lawns make this one of Perth’s most treasured picnic spots — and surprisingly enough, not many people know about it making it a peaceful seaside hideaway in the middle of the suburbs. It’s quiet with lots of room to spread out. There are also barbeques, a stage, a gazebo, and a couple of playgrounds for the kids. Just perfect!

Waterman’s Bay:

This stretch of Perth city coastline is dotted with plenty of tiny secluded alcoves that summon romance with the stunning view along West Coast Drive definitely setting the scene!

Maali Park – Herne Hill (Eastern Suburbs – Swan Valley):

Tranquil, fragrant and a beautiful picnic spot right on the river’s edge describe Maali Park in Herne Hill. Picnic tables, numerous park benches, children’s modern playground equipment and the Maali Bridge serving both pedestrians and cyclists, make this park a family favourite for Perth locals and tourists alike.

Plus Sittella Wines is just up the road so stopping into the cellar door or The Nest wine bar for a wine tasting or glass of vino is a must when in the area.

Bells Rapids, Brigadoon:

Enjoy an invigorating bushland setting complete with water gushing over rocks as you picnic by one of the large boulders and then finish the date with a romantic walk along one of the many bush trails.

Herdsman Lakes (Northern Suburbs):

Surrounded by suburbia and relatively close to Perth’s CBD is Herdsman Park, a large and delightfully peaceful nature reserve that is perfect for picnics, bike rides or just walking. Bursting with varied landscapes of lawns, horse paddocks, woodlands and wetlands, and teeming with birdlife, tortoises and dragon-flies; it’s hard to believe that you are in the middle of the city! For families there is a playground located in the north-west of the park, but there are also plenty of secluded spots that are ideal for a little bit of romance.

Kings Park:

Although conveniently located in the heart of the city, there are a few quiet spots that are off the beaten track with sweeping Perth and Swan River views. One of our favourites is along the Southern Escarpment (Inner City).

Not only is Kings Park one of the largest inner-city parks in the world, showcasing an outstanding collection of Western Australian flora, but it is also a shimmering jewel offering a postcard view of the CBD and Swan River. You can drive through the park, walk through the gardens or picnic in one of the many beautiful picnic spots. Along the Southern Escarpment you can grab a spot which has a view out over the widest part of the Swan river – it can be truly breathtaking.

The stunning landscape offers untamed bushland, cultivated gardens and grassy lawns that are ideal for picnics. Enjoy a stroll, jog through bushland or attend an outdoor summer concert under the stars. You may also like to visit Rio Tinto Naturescape, climb the 101 steps of the spiralling DNA Tower for spectacular views and, of course, let the children have fun on one of the many excellent playgrounds.

North Fremantle:

Believe it or not, there are several isolated nooks and crannies worth considering, being perfect for ‘two,’ located along the gorgeous North Fremantle riverside.

Point Walter in Bicton (Southern Suburbs):

A beautiful large park located adjacent to the Swan River with a white sandy beach and shady trees is simply perfect for all your picnic needs. You can walk along the narrow sand spit and wade in the shallow waters — kids will love playing in the giant sand pit extending out into Freshwater Bay.

Queens Park:

Another of Perth’s CBD picturesque, often quiet picnic spots, offering extensive gardens, a sheltered gazebo and pond making it ideal for your romantic picnic.

Rocky Pool – John Forrest National Park (Perth Hills):

This little gem is a fabulous day out with bush walking tracks, old railways, babbling brooks and lots of lovely spots for a picnic. Several great swimming spots make this location ideal on warmer days. Springtime sees the waterfalls at their very best along with an abundance of luscious wildflowers and stunning Perth Hills rural scenery.

The cute wooden picnic houses, located near the old rail bridge and tavern mark the official picnic spot. However, if you wander up Jane Brook from Pechey Road on the western boundary of the park, you can picnic on a large flat rock right beside the water (Rocky Pool on maps).

National Park fees apply, but free parking is available on Pechey Road.
